“The most incredible and eye-opening cultural experience I’ve ever had!”

Screenshot (102)

After a luxurious stay aboard the Dragon Legend Cruise, I came to Yen Duc Village unsure of what to expect. I left with the most amazing cultural experience and memories I’ve ever known. As a solo American traveler I was nervous at first about what to expect from a country like Vietnam, but the people made me feel so welcomed and loved, I was blown away. I stayed in the local homestay with Ms. Tam and Mr. San whose hospitality and hearts were larger than life. I got to experience the country from the eyes of a true local, experiencing day-to-day from their side with the help of my wonderful guide and translator, Na, and delving into the delicious, homemade Vietnamese cuisine from Ms. Tam herself. If you’re looking to delve into a cultural experience like you’ve never known, do yourself the greatest favor of your life, and go to Yen Duc!

What a delightful change after dizzying old quarter Hanoi. We were totally charmed by the idyllic village life and equally by our amazing and engaging tour guide Thuy. Ven Duc village stay was definitely the highlight of our visit to Vietnam and the food, simply the best!

“Yen Duc was the best part of our Vietnam Experience”

Screenshot (100)

My wife and I and another couple came to Vietnam in the beginning of May for vacation, we took a 1 night cruise on Halong Bay and then were taken to Yen Duc Village for a 1 night stay. Immediately upon our arrival we were greeted by Na, our guide for our stay. She was the most wonderful, joyful person we have every experienced. She took us on a long walk and explained the workings the of Co-op farming village. She took us on an unforgettable fishing adventure, we picked vegetables for our dinner. After resting awhile we exited our beautiful room to find a most beautiful dining table in the courtyard of the home where we stayed in. Na was always there to make sure that everything was perfect, the dinner they prepared was outstanding in every way. After dinne,r Na and some a couple other villagers performed local traditional songs for us, this was a real treat.
The next morning we awoke to a 30 minute light “farmers” exercise routine which was most enjoyable and then a delicious breakfast. Na then took us by bicycle on another tour of the village, the local market and a temple. We saw the highly entertaining water puppet show. The entire stay at Yen Duc Village was an awesome unforgettable addition to our asian trip. Thank you Na, you made our vacation!

“Fantastic 1 day homestay”

I stayed in the home of Ms. Tam and Mr. San for one night in Yen Duc after a trip to Ha Long Bay, and it was the highlight of my trip to Vietnam. Often times you hear of trips advertising an “Authentic” experience. A Yen Duc tour trip fit this definition perfectly.

The homestay was comfortable, while also having the unnecessary pampering of hotels removed to allow you to experience how the villagers live. The homeowners, Ms. Tam and Mr. San, were extremely welcoming and were a delight to get to know. There is also an option for you to stay in much nicer accommodations if the homestay doesn’t suit. However, I wouldn’t miss out on getting to know these 2 great people if possible. The tour company will also send a worker to prepare authentic delicious meals for you and the family.

My tour guide, Thuy, did an amazing job getting me acquainted with the village and its locals. The guide is with you during each day and dinnertime to ensure that you do not feel too much of an outsider and to translate for you and the locals. She was extremely knowledgeable and did a great job showing me the daily lives of the villagers. This included a visit to the market, a tour of their temple, the old and new way the locals make rice, traditional fishing methods, and meeting many locals! I’d definitely recommend having her as your guide.

If you are a photographer, there are some great opportunity to capture the great colors and tranquility that Vietnam is known for.

I cannot recommend this enough if you want to ensure that your trip is less of a cushy vacation and more of an adventure. The people of Yen Duc are truly friendly and open, and if you are the same, you will come away with an unforgettable experience.

“Fantastic immersive 2 night village experience, great for foodies!”

I can very highly recommend this trip for everyone who is interested in learning about Vietnamese rural culture. Take your time and stay 1 or 2 nights. The accommodation is one luxurious room adjacent to a classic Vietnamese house.

There are several highlights I would like to point out: First of all, our fantastic tour guide Thuy, who kept us busy and showed us around, very welcoming, knowledgable and always a smile on her face. She went far over her mandate with impromptu shoulder massages after dinner or singing a traditional song during broom making. Also, as very special treats (and I would not expect that they offer that to everyone i.e. larger groups), we got to watch the water puppet show from back stage, and our 10 year old son got some first hand experience with rubber pants on, standing in the lake and trying his hand on puppeteering.

There there is the food! OMG, plentiful, delicious and all made from super fresh ingredients! The 3 day / 2 night tour includes 3 opulent lunches and 2 fancy dinners. Some of the food preparation is shared in a hands on class. There is so much program that we never got bored, but mercifully there was also some down time to take a rest.

The whole commune of Yen Duc is very friendly towards the few foreigners visiting, always smiles and hellos. I consider this still a hidden gem. But I wish them to receive more curious and adventurous guests to spoil.

If there is one nitpick, it would be that the bathroom in the room is merely separated by curtains. But there is nothing that can be done about it. Otherwise this is a great opportunity to see / experience the real village life, learn about rice farming and do some hands on basket fishing. Not to be missed!

“Wonderful 1 night homestay at Yen Duc Village”

We did this tour as a follow-on from our Halong Bay tour with Indochina-Junk company and it surpassed all expectations! Having just come from a very luxurious boat, we were not sure what the homestay would be like but the luxury continued! Our room was amazing and in a beautiful traditional building.

We packed a lot into 24 hours in the village and had a facinating tour by bike through the rice paddy fields and village where we met with local people. The village was beautiful to cycle through and it was great to hear more about the local traditions. We got to take part in various activities – preparing rice in the traditional way, catching fish by hand, making brooms and visitng the local market. We also visited some of the local landmarks and temples and learnt a lot about the history of the village. We also had a mini cookery class – preparing our own dessert!

Our guide Cuc was amazing! She was very friendly and informative and allowed us plenty of time to ask questions and take photos.

We had three big meals during our stay with lots of traditional Vietnamese food – all delicious and to a high standard.

The whole team who looked after us were brilliant and everything was very professional and clean.

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!

“Fantastic visit in Vietnamese Village. Highly Recommended.”

My wife and I were in Vietnam for only one week. We had just done a 2 night cruise in Ha Long Bay which was great, but I wanted to see some of the countryside and get off the beaten tourist path. I was a little nervous about the Yen Duc village tour. I almost waved off and spent another day on the coast. I am so glad that we did the tour in Yen Duc Village. It exceeded my expectations in every way. I can honestly say that if I had to choose only one thing to do in Vietnam, between Ha Long Bay and Yen Duc Village, I would take Yen Duc Village.

The staff were immediately warm and welcoming with very personal service. My wife and I were the only people staying there that evening, but we were told that at most, there would only be 8 families. This decision is to keep the service personal, and also to limit that “beaten path” problem that I was trying to avoid.

Yen Duc is way off the beaten path. Our guide was Na, a wonderful woman that filled every moment we spent there with laughter and who clearly took great joy in her work, and pride in her village. We were delighted with her company and she made every experience a special moment. We caught fish by hand from a local fish farm pond, worked traditional equipment for harvesting rice, visited the village temple, did some hands on broom making, and visited a local fellow in his home who explained local customs, and shared experiences with us. Na’s English was excellent, allowing us to truly interact with the people of the village, both in the planned activities and in completely spontaneous moments in the local market, and just on the street with the locals. We toured a vegetable garden where Na pointed out plants and herbs, and we saw those same elements in our meals.

The food was remarkable. All made from produce in the village, some (like the fish) that we acquired by our own hand. I bought some mangos in the market and Na prepared them for us later. We had a special show of some traditional folk songs and dancing. I’ve seen many such shows put on for tourists in Mexico at resorts for instance, and I generally don’t care for them. They generally have a very forced, canned feel to them, where the performers are going through motions. This Yen Duc performance was just with the two of us watching and it was fantastic. We even talked Na into getting up and doing a little routine. She is incredibly fun, but from reading other reviews, it seems all the guides are well chosen.

I highly recommend the overnight stay in Yen Duc Village.

Perfect stay in Yen Duc

Screenshot (763)

Me and my girlfriend took a Bai Tu Long tour with Indochina Junk and decided to stay one night in Yen Duc village after that. We were the only tourists that stayed in their newly build house which accomodates max 8 people. Our tour guide name was Cuc and she was a wonderful host and took great care of us. She spoke perfect English. The facilities were quite luxourious and the food was one of the best we’ve had here in Vietnam. We met a lot of locals during our tour around the village. The locals are almost as curious about you as you are curious about them. We had a tea and a nice talk with some ex soldiers, then took some selfies with the village teenagers, and spoke with alot of other hard-working women. Cuc introduced us to a lot of plants and exotic fruits that they grow in the village. Our stay in the village was wonderful and we had a great time and we would highly recommend this stay to anyone!

A welcoming village rich in culture

Screenshot (762)

My wife and I visited the Yen Duc village for a few days. Having visited small villages in other countries, my wife and I were eager to do the same in Vietnam. We prefer to visit places off the beaten path and interact with people closer to the root of local cultures. Our host, Na, was the most welcoming host I have ever met. The sense of hospitality her and the villagers have is outstanding. We enjoyed learning about the local people and traditions. In addition, the food they serve is extremely impressive. Let’s just say it’s hard to eat food back at home in the U.S.A.! Finally, the overnight room was surprising. We were expecting a small room with a sink and shower. To our delight, it was a spacious air conditioned room with a full bathroom. Overall, I would recommend people visit Yen Duc Village.

Wonderful time with Na and co!

We took this tour after the Dragon Legend cruise and are so happy we did! We were met by Ms. Na who was our guide, and she took us on the village tour of farms, the market, local peoples houses and historical sites. We learned how to catch fish with a basket and how to make the brooms from Rice straw. Our highlight was staying with Ms Tam and Mr San and learning about their lives and family. The food we had was amazing….. we had all the Vietnamese specialties and some staple foods as well.

This really is a worthwhile tour and Na is an amazing guide who speaks great English. She is lovely. Definitely stay overnight the people are so friendly and welcoming in the village.
